Dear Milford School District Families and Community,
This evening, Governor Carney ordered all Delaware schools to remain closed through at least Friday, May 15 to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus). The May 15th school closure order includes Milford School District’s schools.
Here are some important items that you need to know:
• We have begun actively preparing for remote student learning plans for our students to access and engage in learning opportunities during the school closure. We will keep you updated with progress towards this implementation.
• In the meantime, Education resources and Buccaneer Brain Boosters are posted daily on our website and Facebook page. A full list of these resources can be found on our website http://bit.ly/2QHpcfR
• Students, and accompanying adults, may continue to access free grab and go meals from 11am-12:30pm at Benjamin Banneker, Morris Early Childhood, Mispillion Elementary, Mt. Zion Church, and Houston Fire Station. This week’s grab and go meals schedule has been altered with the remainder of the week’s meal distribution being this Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. On Wednesday, meals will be provided for Wednesday and Thursday.
• The school calendar will likely be extended toward or through the end of June and we will work with the state so that school does not go beyond the end of June.
We will share more information with you as we receive further guidance and have updates for our district-community. Updates will be made available on our website, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
Our goal is to help our communities and the state to control the spread of COVID-19 and keeping our district-community and Delawareans safe and healthy.
Thank you POLYTECH School District! Beginning Monday, March 23, Milford School District is excited to add another meal distribution site within the district at the Houston Fire Station from 11 am - 12:30 pm through the partnership with and work of the POLYTECH School District Child Nutrition Staff. Also, thank you Houston Fire Department and Chief Scott!
We are also offering free adult meals to accompanying adults. For anyone wishing to donate to this, checks can be made to Milford School District.
Milford School District-Community,
We would like to update you on the status from a previous call on Saturday, March 14, in regard to a Wilmington University-affiliated student in connection to Milford High School and Lulu Ross Elementary School. The person has tested negative for COVID-19, the coronavirus. Again, the person has tested negative for COVID-19 and we are thankful the person is presently feeling well and healthy.
We received additional general guidance from the Delaware Division of Public Health for parents and families. This guidance includes:
• Avoid group gatherings for students, including sleepovers, play dates, parties, or teen groups.
• Those who do need childcare, try to limit the number of interactions and families involved as possible.
• If you are socializing with others, maintain 6 feet of distance between individuals outside of the immediate family.
• If outside for walks, hikes, bike rides, or other activities, it is important to still maintain 6 feet between people beyond immediate family and limit your group size.
We will continue working together and sharing information.
